10 WAYS TO START A SLIMMER 2010

1. Slow down your eating-take at least 20 minutes to consume a meal. This allows time for your stomach to relay to your brain that you are feeling full. Slimmer 2010

2. Get more sleep-too little sleep can cause your appetite to increase. Also, you can’t eat when your sleeping!

3. Serve more vegetables at mealtime-instead of just offering one vegetable with your next meal, why not try three? You’ll eat less of the other stuff, by default, and you’ll add more vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Just make sure you don’t add butter, cheese, or a creamy sauce to take away the benefit!

4. Choose whole grain-when shopping for home or eating out, look for brown rice and 100% whole wheat breads when choosing your carbohydrate. They are more filling and can improve cholesterol scores.

5. Cut back on sugar-immediately replace those sugary drinks with zero-calorie ones. Choose seltzer, crystal lite, diet soda, or just plain old water.

6. Limit alcohol-not only does the bubbly add calories, but it lessens your inhibitions when it comes to mindless snacking and making poor food choices.

7. Trade in your morning coffee for a green tea-studies suggest it can rev up the body’s calorie-burning engine temporarily, possible through the action of phytochemicals called catechins. Phytochemicals benefit your body in many other ways too.

8. Eat at home more-not only can you control 100% of what you eat, but you can also control your portion size and the speed at which you eat. Use a smaller plate and pause between every bite. This allows you to feel satiety ques to keep you from overeating.

9. Go meatless more often-research shows that vegetarians weigh 20% less than meat eaters. This is mainly due to their high consumption of beans. Beans are low in fat and high in fiber and protein, and very filling. You don’t have to completely give up your greasy cheese burger, just try a veggie burger once in a while.

10. Keep your eye on the prize! Have a slinky dress or a snug pair of smokin’ jeans hanging where you can see them everyday to encourage you to stay focused on your goal. Occassionally try them on to check your progress.

(10 ½. Celebrate small milestones and reward yourself for reaching temporary goals. The next hurdle is the hardest one to get over!)

Good Luck and Have a Slimmer 2010!
